FREDERICKSBURG —The state’s first and only Parmida Home store will open in early November 2012 at The Village at Towne Centre near Fredericksburg.

» Veterans' group to host open house: The AMVETS (American Veterans), 2300 W. Beverley St., will host an open house from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday. The event will feature a dart and corn hole tournament. A meal will consist of pork butt, potato salad, cole slaw and baked beans, plus the regular menu. Membership costs $19.

Librarian's long shot on target for grant

As a classroom teacher in the DeSoto County Schools system, Alison Lee didn't have much time to apply for grants. Grading papers and daily interaction with students consumed most of her day.
